Vintage Alessi Peyrano chocolate box, by Alessandro Mendini Italy. Inox stainless steel. 1990 Italian post-modernist design, metal container

A fab 'Peyrano' chocolate box, designed by Alessandro Mendini for Alessi, Italy. Designed in 1989/1990, it's a rare and iconic post-modernist item which was featured in a Star Trek episode.

It's a simple atomic-style tripod design with shallow oval lidded container, all in high quality shiny and reflective inox 18/10 stainless steel. It's stamped to the base, along with #070148. Shiny outers with satin inners.

The oval container is 28cm x 17cm, it extends to about 13cm tall. Ideal for a cluster of chocolates, trinkets, desk items etc - but probably best just for show.

Very good vintage condition, has a few small marks, but overall very striking and fun. There's a knack to getting the lid on; it fits one way round and takes two hands. Probably more for display and investment than for practical use as a coffee table chocolate box.
