Vintage 7cm Dala horse figure, Grannas/Nils Olsson. Wood traditional folk art. Red hand painted & carved equine figurine. Swedish Dalahorse

A small 7cm Dalecarlian horse or Dala horse (Swedish: Dalahäst). It's a traditional carved, painted wooden statue of a horse originating in the Swedish province of Dalarna (Dalecarlia). The original meaning behind the carved Swedish Dala horses may be unknown, but today the red painted wooden Dalecarlian horse is essentially a symbol of the country of Sweden itself.

This example is an unknown vintage (probably 1990s to 2000s as his paint work is excellent and shiny). It's most likely by Grannas Anders Olsson, the older brother of Nils Olsson. Made in Sweden, hand carved from carefully selected pine, hand painted and varnished. Every Dalahorse is "double" unique - the manufacturers can identify the carver and the painter!

Excellent condition. You can see a mark left from an old oval sticker on his belly. Petite and lightweight - he stands 7cm tall.
