Vintage 1973 Sterling Silver Brutalist/Modernist nugget brooch. 1970s pin badge, London 'NGB' hallmarked. Random textured molten. Buttonhole

A super mid-century Sterling silver brooch dating from 1973. It's stamped on the back with the maker's initials which look like NGB, then two assay marks (the lion and lion's head, representing London, Sterling Silver) with the date stamp of a fancy italic 'S' for 1973. Weirdly, the maker's stamp is also repeated on the front. See close up photos.

A chunky and solid molten silver retro brooch, like a raw nugget. It is lightly pitted, dripping, unpredictable. Jagged random 3D shape with some sharp edges, both Brutalist and Modernist and organic in style. The photos don't do it justice - it's a stunning and a totally unique piece.

The pin on the back is handmade in appearance/feel and works adequately. It has a fine steel safety chain with a pin to tuck in your buttonhole. I would use both devices to hold it in place, or tweak the pin holder so it's tighter and safer. The chain could easily be removed - see photos.

Looks stunning on, just the right size to be a statement yet classy. Can be worn any way up. 43mm x 30mm x 5mm. Quite weighty and solid - 17g.
