A super stylish (and weighty) vintage Robert Welch nut cracker, from the Hobart range.

This is a vintage version of the design, probably 1970s. The Hobart Nutcracker is an original Robert Welch design from 1964. The iconic design is still available today as part of the Legacy Collection, celebrating 60 years of design from Welch's workshop at Chipping Campden (why buy new?). Robert Welch was known for his stainless steel and silver ranges for Old Hall, along with these lovely modernist cast iron pieces.

Made from solid cast iron, coloured satin black, with a steel spindle. It uses a simple wind up and down mechanism. Height is 150mm (when fully wound down), width is 130mm across the top handle. 180cm tall when fully wound out. Would take a larger nut of around 35mm tall. Weighs a chunky 1.4kg.

Very good condition for the age. Fully functional and an iconic design. Some natural patina to the steel. It's subtly different from the modern version - why buy new when you can buy original vintage?!
