A pair of footed mugs by Briglin Pottery, London, from the 1960s or 1970s. Handmade with red clay, both are stamped with the logo to the bases. Wheel thrown/turned items, chunky handmade retro Studio Pottery style - very typical of the era. They're decorated with two sunflowers or daisies each side. The flower motifs are matte due to the wax resist methods used. The flowers have deep burgundy red centres with black petals. The mugs are tones of glossy browns - from beige to dark brown. They're deeper colours than many, and a matching pair.

Apx 11.5 tall x 7cm wide. Around 250ml capacity each. Being handmade they're slightly different.

Info: The Briglin Pottery was a studio pottery founded in 1948 by Brigitte Goldschmidt and Eileen Lewenstein in the basement of premises at 66 Baker Street, London. Its object was "to produce well designed, attractive pots that could be used in the home, and to sell them at affordable prices." It produced a large quantity of domestic pottery, much of it recognisable from its dark earthenware body, muted colours, white glaze and wax resist designs. They ceased trading in 1990.
