A super handmade Roger Veal pottery slab/block vase, made in Cornwall at Tolcarne Pottery, England, in the 1970s. Rectangular with straight(ish) edges, brick like.

Tolcarne Pottery was operated by Roger Veal, a design potter, in Newlyn, Cornwall from the late 1960s to around 1980.

This is a super vase with flat vertical sides and one feature side with a typically late 1960s or early 1970s relief pattern, in a Brutalist style. Tones of brown/tan and warm sandy brick colours. It's a rough stoneware type clay/pottery.

Very good condition. Stamped with the logo to the base. Apx 16.7 x 9.4 x 5.5cm. Would hold a dozen flower stems if used. It has some irregularities to the glaze/pottery from the time of manufacture, see photos. Rough baseline, but I think this is as he made it.

A fascinating and unique artwork... Would make a fab addition for any collector of Cornish or studio pottery and would complement any retro, vintage, 70s, modernist, minimalist or modern interior.
