Sterling silver 925 WWL modernist brooch. Vintage 1960s oval + semi-precious stone, agate cabochon. South Africa stamped. Mid century modern

A super handmade Sterling silver 925 brooch with a semi-precious agate stone dating from around the 1960s. It's stamped on the back with the maker's initials 'WWL' and 'Sterling'. WWL were a South African jewellery design house from around the mid century. They made very fine quality Sterling Silver jewellery for a limited time, Modernist in design and set with high quality semi-precious stones. These mid century pieces are collectable and hard to find.

The triangular polished stone looks to me to be an agate - it's cloudy blue grey colour with bluer mauve areas. See photos. The quality oval silver disc base (40mm x 18mm) is symmetrical with the sizeable stone on top, cabachon set. The smooth stone is a good sized 35mm x 12mm. Weighs 13g.

Very good condition, a quality piece. The silver is shiny with natural darker areas. The roll-over pin on the back works well. It's a lovely stylish modernist collectable mid-century brooch.
