Silver 925 Modernist brooch/pin. Hallmarked A*D Andreas Daub. 1973 Brutalist metal twisted + silver ribbon/star. MCM retro costume jewellery

A lovely and unusual retro/vintage brooch (or scarf clip), which looks to date from 1973 (it has the 's' date hallmark). The silver brooch is a 3D dome of random wiggly lines, roughly textured and knobbly, over a smooth ribbon like flower or star shape. Both Brutalist and Modernist in style (see photos and you'll see what I mean).

It's a curious piece as it has two sets of hallmarks - the first in a square reads '925 A*D' which I believe is Andreas Daub, Germany - so German origin. It does look typical of their work from the 70s. Then the second set of hallmarks read 'GS [cross within a circle] 925 S'.... which I translate as being the British importers and distributors (GS), import, 925 grade silver and 1973. Bright 925 grade silver, but if you look closely it has microscopic areas of tarnishing, almost like it has been re-coated, see close up photos.

Apx 43 x 43 x 15mm - a good size. Pin to reverse works well. A beautiful and curious example, with unusual origins. Good shiny condition, very wearable... Quite a retro statement!
