Retro Luigi Colani elephant money box/piggy bank. Lime/olive green plastic Drumbo, for Dresdner Bank Germany. Vintage 1970s savings figurine
A collectable vintage elephant money box/piggy bank, made in Germany for Dresdner Bank.
Design attributed to Luigi Colani for the Dresdner Bank in the 1960s - this example is stamped to the base with the name of the bank.
Later examples had Commerzbank written on them (the more recent name of the bank). This is vintage - circa 1970s.
This famous shape is also known as 'Drumbo'.
I have also seen this design as 'designed by Bernd Diefenbach in 1972'. I guess the true designer is unconfirmed.
Olive or dusky lime green glossy formed plastic.
Apx 7cm high x 8.5cm long x 4.5cm high - small sized I believe.
These mark easily, and crack, but this example is excellent with a great shine.
Suitable for display in a kids' bedroom or as a collectable with other Drumbos, or just as a iconic minimalist ornament.
These were designed for kids' savings and were sealed closed and had to be broken to empty - meaning this has never been used. These are getting increasingly rare.
Includes P&P to the UK.
