Oiva Toikka Flora large vintage art glass bowl, Nuutajarvi Notsjo/iittala. Finnish Modernist fruit bowl. Alexandrite purple/blue tableware.

This is a large statement Oiva Toikka 'Flora' Series vintage art glass bowl by Nuutajarvi Notsjo (later made by iittala I believe).

Unusually, this example is Alexandrite colouring and content (aka Neodymium) - this means it is colouring changing in different lights. It is purple pink (mauve) in natural light, and blue under a flourescent light (see eighth photo). Hard to find this bowl of this size in this colouring.

The Flora Series was designed by Oiva Toikka in 1966, with a range of cylindrical tableware with a relief pattern of different abstract stemmed flowers and leaves. It was press molded (but hand finished) so the botanical designs are slightly 3D on the outers and the base - there are different simplified 'plants' growing upwards all the way round. A beautiful design that's really had to photograph! Nuutajärvi produced Flora items from 1966 to 1978... Circa 1960 to 1980s vintage.

This large bowl is 19cm wide and 10cm tall, with straight sides and flat polished rim. Perfect for salads and fruit, or just for display.

Good, but used condition. Unfortunately there is a 5mm slither shell chip to the outside rim and a couple of nibbles to the outer rim further round - see last two pics. I wouldn't normally sell an item with these imperfections, but it is so unusual in both its scale and colouring that I had to post it here on Coco Collectables. Base shows the slight wear marks you'd expect for a vintage item. A couple of small scratches too. I'd give it a 7/10 for condition.

Quite thin fragile glass, so UK only I'm afraid. Free P&P to the UK.

Perfect for a collector - it's unusual and very collectable.
