Murano gold leaf + pink art glass bowl/dish. 1960s/1970s vintage Italian. Aventurine, cased white & clear. Teardrop biomorphic large ashtray
A fascinating art glass bowl, most likely from Murano, Italy. Circa 1970s vintage.
Internally the bowl has a deep pink flesh-like layer, which has been applied to a non-transparent opaline glass so it's a vibrant solid statement colour with a white layer below; this has been cased in gold leaf or aventurine, which in turn has been cased in a clear and slightly golden glass - much in the style of Barbini, Murano. It's a pointy freeform teardrop shape, with a flat polished base. Nicely made and quite different! Perfect if you love pink and gold - the gold makes it slightly pearlescent outside.
No obvious chips or nibbles. A couple of hard to see marks in and out, but overall really very good and very displayable. Flat base shows minimal signs of wear.
(The white line along the lip is a bit irregular/jagged). There's one inclusion from time of manufacture.
The glass bowl is sizeable at 19.5cm long x 14.5cm wide x 6.5cm tall. It weighs just under 1.2kg - it's quite weighty and solid.
Price includes P&P to the UK.
