Murano geode bowl/dish/ashtray, vintage 50's/60's art glass. White/black/grey alabastro/opaline cased sommerso. Triangular, retro MCM Italy.
A fantastic example of a multi-coloured sommerso geode bowl, from Murano Italy.
Circa 1960s, but may even be 1950s.
Heavy art glass with flat thick polished rim - a geode. Glass is 3cm thick.
Very dark graphite grey smokey centre (almost olive tone), followed by a light grey floating colour (sommerso), then a layer white alabastro/opaline, all cased in (slightly yellowy) clear glass.
So four layers or colours overall. Really unusual colouring - most likely attributed to Seguso.
Triangular-ish in shape - rounded down to the base.
A good chunk of solid glass - 955g.
13cm wide x 5.5cm tall.
Good condition - however, there are two impact marks (not chips) on the outside edge just below the rim line.
If you look at the overhead photo you can see the two small internal fracture lines. No chips.
A couple of microscopic nibbles on the dark grey inner rim.
Base is flat and polished and shows the signs of its era, as you'd expect.
Overall, displays very well and is a very good example of a really unusual vintage Murano bowl. A statement!
Price includes P&P.
Price reflects the two small impact marks.
