Glit Iceland lava pottery vase/pot. Black + drip glaze. Vintage Icelandic ceramic, 1960s/1970s retro. Volcano, real lava glazed small pot

A striking and fascinating vintage lava textured pot/vase by GLIT, Iceland. Dating from the 1970s 'fat lava' era, this has been formed with real lava from the Icelandic volcanoes. The overall glossy glaze is a speckled pale pinky brown with areas of blue/grey around the rim. The textured sticky black lava around the middle has been glazed with black. The base clay is a terracotta pottery. Very displayable and unusual, Mid Century Modern and retro style - perfect statement for your teak sideboard along side West German fat lava vases and pots.

I don't know much about Glit pottery, but I've seen names like Einar Gudmundsson and Ragnar Kjartansson used - I'm not sure who this is attributed to. It is stamped to the base with the volcano logo.

A small piece - apx 10cm x 6cm. Would hold a small flower pot, a bunch of sweets, a succulent plant etc. Very good vintage condition, great for display. There are some impossible to spot tiny chips missing off a few spiky ends, but they don't really show.

Price includes P&P to the UK.
