Glit Iceland 110/16 lava pottery vase. Green, black & red Fat Lava. Vintage Icelandic ceramic, 60s/70s retro. Volcano, real lava glazed pot

A striking and fascinating vintage lava textured pot/vase by GLIT, Iceland. Dating from the 1960s or 1970s 'fat lava' era, this has been formed with real lava from the Icelandic volcanoes. The overall glossy glaze is a speckled pale green with areas of blue/green and brown if you look closely. The textured sticky black lava around the lower middle has been glazed with splashes of white and red. The base clay is dark grey brown. Very displayable and unusual, Mid Century Modern and retro style - perfect statement for your teak sideboard along side West German fat lava vases.

I don't know much about Glit pottery, but I've seen names like Einar Gudmundsson and Ragnar Kjartansson used - I'm not sure who this is attributed to. It is stamped to the base with 'Glit Iceland Lava' the number '110 16' and signed with the initial 'B'.

Apx 17.5cm x 11cm. Would hold a good dozen flower stems. Good vintage condition. There are some old chips clustered together along the rim, but being a dark clay they don't really show, and there is one chip below the outer rim (see last two photos).
