Crayonne Input Habitat yellow melamine ashtray dish, Conran. 1970s retro lidded bowl deep yellow + black plastic. Vintage space-age round 6"

A super 1970s Crayonne Habitat ashtray or lidded container, from the Input range. This was designed in 1972 by (Terence) Conran Associates and Airfix/Crayonne and this yellow ashtray has an entry in the V&A if you google 'Crayonne yellow ashtray'.

In 1972 Airfix Plastics initiated a design programme to improve the image of plastics, making them high quality and desirable. The business approached Conran Associates, a design subsidiary of Habitat, to design a range of plastic products for the office or home. The Input range was launched in May 1973 and designed by Conran Associates for Crayonne, a newly established division of Airfix. The range consisted of 21 'containers' including bowls, dishes, trays, bins, vases, pots and an ice bucket which were all made from heavy duty ABS plastic, selected for its strength and scratch and shatter resistance. They were initially produced in four colours: red, yellow, green and white. All the items in the range were based on the same diameter and height ratios to achieve an integrated appearance and were given identification numbers, rather than names - I believe this is Input6. The range won a Design Centre Award in 1974.

Hard (ABS) plastic/melamine, in a simple shape, in a gorgeous sunny yellow with a black top. Perfect for a retro, post-modernist or space age style decor. It's very hard to get the lid on and off so I'm not sure it is intended as a container - the three round dips are for cigarettes. Probably more suited to a collection.

15.5cm wide x 5cm high. Very good condition with no chips, some small marks signs of use. It's fabulous on display!

Includes P&P to the UK.
