A vintage studio pottery art vase, by Carn Pottery, Penzance, Cornwall from the 1970s or so...

Carn Pottery was John Beusmans; he used muted blue, brown and green glazes over a pale neutral-toned clays and is best known for his geometric Cubist or angular pieces - like this. John was inspired by the Cornish sea and landscapes and primitive Celtic/Runic Studio Pottery designs.

The outers of this vase were probably moulded, then different contrasting decors were hand applied. One side, the front, is a geometric sun-ray design with circles and arcs. This rectangular side is cut short with a triangular step to the triangular rim. There's also an arc shape cut out of the side. The two narrow sides have a scribbled pattern, and the reverse a stylised flower. It has a contrasting feature triangular rim. It has muted matt colours in pale blues, browns and greens. A pale stoneware/clay sculpture with a glossy glazed inner. It has a faded Carn Pottery stamp to the base.

Rectangular overall - 13.5cm tall x 7cm widest x 4.5cm deep. Very good outers, one hidden chip underneath. Hard to photograph in winter light!
