Briglin Pottery hedgehog figurine. Handmade animal, vintage 1960s/1970s. Duck egg blue glazed clay. British ceramic sgraffito ornament, cute
An adorable stylised hedgehog by Briglin Pottery, London, from the 1960s or 1970s. Handmade with red clay so it's dated to this era. Stamped with the Briglin logo and 'England' to the base. He's a hollow figurine (rather than a money box).
Apx 9 x 7cm. White glazed simple round face with holes for eyes, cute short round nose, and scraped (sgraffito) textured duck egg blue/green and brown and white linear spines. A lovely collectable example of a Briglin creature - they're all different. Excellent condition. May have natural manufacturing flaws from being handmade.
Price includes P&P to the UK.
Info: The Briglin Pottery was a studio pottery founded in 1948 by Brigitte Goldschmidt and Eileen Lewenstein in the basement of premises at 66 Baker Street, London. Its object was "to produce well designed, attractive pots that could be used in the home, and to sell them at affordable prices." It produced a large quantity of domestic pottery, much of it recognisable from its dark earthenware body, muted colours, white glaze and wax resist designs.
