Bernard Rooke pottery bottle/carafe/decanter 1960s/70s vintage, signed Studio art. Brutalist Modernist geometric handmade ceramic stoneware

An unusual Bernard Rooke signed sculptural pottery carafe (or decanter or lidded bottle), made in England in the 1960s or 1970s. Carefully handmade and symmetrical with alternating concentric circle design and concentric circles with dotty design (four sides, two circular designs). Could be used for drinks storage, for display as part of a collection, or as a vase. It is hand signed near the base with 'BR.'.

Rooke set up a studio in London with Alan Wallwork in 1960, and produced many lamp bases and sculptural vases. The lamp bases were popular and more mass produced and have proved a mainstay until the present day. The sculptures exercised his artistic talents to the full. He moved to larger premises in Suffolk in 1967, and continues to this day with his son. I don't know if this bottle is from London in the 1960s era, or Suffolk from the 1970s - probably a 1970s example. It probably would have been produced as part of a decanter set with goblets.

Looks to be neatly turned and built up in sections, with four hand applied patterns. All quite smooth and neat. Stopper looks more 'freeform' has a dotty pattern on top. A fascinating unique handmade bottle which reflects its handmade studio pottery nature. Lovely organic natural earthy neutral tones. The distinctive muted colours and big shapes are of a Modernist/Brutalist style. Very similar to works from other studio potteries from the 1960s/1970s - Louis Hudson, Bob Dawe, Tremain, etc. Would make a fab addition for any collector of these vintage studio potteries and would complement any retro, vintage, 70s, modernist, minimalist or modern interior.

Beige lightly-glazed neutral background colour, with raw unglazed tan coloured patterns. In very good condition, a really nice collectable example. No chips, but has some dark marks which may or may not come off (pencil?). See photos. 23.5cm tall with stopper, 19.5cm without. Stopper is a bit ill-fitting so sometimes sits wonky.

A fascinating statement artwork - more for display than use!
