Alveston bud vases by Robert Welch, Old Hall. 1960s/1970s satin stainless steel 18/8. Mid Century Modernist, vintage footed cylinder vase
A stylish Modernist pair of stainless steel bud vases designed by Robert Welch, Des. RCA., FSIA, for Old Hall (Sheffield, England). Part of the iconic Alveston range from 1964, these were in production from 1964 to 1971*. The Alveston tableware range won a Design Centre Award in 1965, and is now much sought after.
High quality items in a satin/slightly brushed 18/8 stainless steel. Made in England by Old Hall, both are stamped on the angled undersides with 'Designed by R. Welch. Old Hall England. 18/8 Stainless Steel'. Tall and slim elegant design, simple, minimalist.
Excellent condition for age/era with a few signs of use/some light marks - but great for over 45 years old. They both maintain their original non-slip bases, but they're slightly different from different batches. Black base version - this one is slightly shorter. It has a couple of very small surface marks. Blue base version - this one has a black stripe at the bottom of the cylinder tube, and the logo is wonky. It has an original quality controller's sticker underneath.
They're both around 18cm tall, 2.9cm wide at the lightly flared rim, 5cm wide at the base. They would hold a single statement flower or a few slim stems. Both tested for water-tightness for a short time. They could also be used as a candle holder for a dinner candle.
Price includes P&P to the UK.
