A vintage handmade vase, by Rye Pottery, Sussex. This is in the iconic Cottage Stripe pattern and is a mid century 1950s original.

Rye Pottery was John Cole and Walter Cole. Walter (Wally) was responsible for creating the ceramics and running the pottery while John made the designs and created the patterns and decorations. As their work became increasingly popular, the Coles began to employ and train other staff - throwers David Sharp, Dennis Townsend, Raymond Everett, David Smeed and Jim Elliott who were later joined by Pam Goddard and June Woolley.

This will likely be by Wally Cole. The old red clay was dug up by the Coles locally so dates it to a 1950s Rye Pottery vase. Wheel thrown and glazed white, the small curvy bulbous vase has light blue/grey hand-painted vertical stripes which fade towards the base, with very feint yellow stripes from the neck and fading downwards the base (Cottage Stripe design). Stamped to the base with 'RYE'.

Very good condition, as manufactured/hand made with natural glazing quirks like tiny bubbles/pits. A petite 8cm tall x 3.5cm at rim. Great for a collection, please note it's small so suited for buttercups, daisies etc.
